Basket Weave or Block Stitch Pattern on the Knifty Knitter Knitting Loom

Loom Knitter

The Knifty Knitter looms are just one brand of loom that can be used to make the basket weave stitch pattern. This stitch pattern is also called the block stitch pattern because it looks like repeating square blocks, much like a checkerboard.

The stitch pattern is made by alternating the knit and purl pattern within the row of stitches. For example:
Row 1 4: K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3
Row 5 8: P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3
Row 9 12: K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3
In the video, it explains this pattern as multiples of 6 + 3. That means to get the pattern to work out evenly you can do the panel in 9 stitches (6 + 3), 15 stitch (12 + 3), 21 stitches (18+3), etc. What do I mean by "work out evenly?" Look up at rows 14, the start with 3 knit stitches and end with 3 knit stitches. The next set of rows 58 start with 3 purl stitches and end with 3 purl stitches. This makes the knit look balanced and even on both sides. We accomplish this by ensuring we plan our knit to be any multiple of 6 stitches + 3 in width.
