Have ever wondered about how handmade baskets is weaved from scratch in Bolgatanga Ghana ? Then, this is a documentary you must watch. A team travelled all the way to a village in Northern Region of Ghana to document the traditional method in weaving and the challenges they face in a volatile climate and economy. From May until September the rainy season provides lush green pastures and much needed shade. This 5 month window is the time the villagers make money before the dry season.

APAGLI TAABA Which means helping one another or teaching one another as a group. The basket work is not easy and they do not make a lot of money out of it but this is what they know how to do and it they don't do it they wouldn't eat at all. The straw used to make baskets are not here in Bolga, they buy the straw from Kumasi. There is straw in Bolga but it is not enough so it sells out at the market.

There is a basket market located in the center of Bolgatanga
Mostly old women and men travel from near and far villages for the chance to sell their supply of baskets
After the wholesalers buy the baskets they are brought to a warehouse where they are turned into beautiful finished accessories adding decorative trims. They are then packaged and shipped to retailers in bulk.

On behalf of my team and the Apagli Taaba Weavers we would like to open a donation to support these women and construct a suitable work station to ensure smooth and convenient atmosphere for work especially in the raining season.
