It has been 11 years since I've biked on the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway. The annual ride used to be to raise money to combat heart disease and stroke, but now that fight is against such ailments as Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The causes are good, and either way it's an excuse to take advantage of some seldomavailable bike infrastructure!

Due to the length of this course, the ride has been divided into a series of videos. Part 1 covers the leadup to the starting line (Princes' Gates to BMO Field), and about onethird of the actual ride on the Gardiner and DVP. The leg ends at the Don Mills rest station, just passed Don Mills Rd.

For what it's worth, the entire ride, including the portion from Princes' Gates to BMO Field, works out to 48.5 km according to my GPS. I think the ride organizers do their best to make the course as close to 50 km as possible, but their work isn't perfect, given that our highways don't neatly conform to specific distances.
