I've been working on a new 'cameo' style layout inspired by logging railroads in the Pacific North West. Inspired by the wonderful photos in the Morning Sun book by Gary Durr, the scene depicts a lightly laid logging spur and passing siding in the 1950s, as truck logging replaced the myriad of lightly laid spurs and reloads were linked to the mill by a heavier reengineered mainline.
