Today we archive a very special game that some might have overlooked this year. Bears in Space is a game developed for a long time by a relatively small indie team and offers an FPS experience in the same style as Doom and Quake, but with a very funny setting and plenty of meta humor.
We play as Max which was already a huge plus since my actual name is Max, so I immediately felt conected with him. We are on a spaceship when a terrible accident happens and we get infused with a giant bear. That gives us special powers and after having crash landed on a mysterious planet, we need to find ourselves back to earth.
Along the way we meet plenty of crazy characters that either want to befriend us or try to hurt us. We will head to a giant, medieval town, storm the beaches of a battlefield and even partake in a colloseum tournament. There are many secrets to find and also side activities and minigames to do.
The humor is sometimes hit or miss with some jokes going on for just a bit too long, but other times the game had me laughing out loud.
But the best thing is that the action itself feels awesome with quick and tight controls, plenty of weapons to obtain and choose from. And the best thing is that most weapons can be upgraded twice to bigger and better versions. In order to do this you will need to destroy more enemies and it is impossible to upgrade them all in a single run. Therefore there is also plenty of replay value for those who want to see what all the weapon upgrades are.
