"The sport moves so quickly. The external pressures mean nothing to me. I just need to worry about the internal pressures that I have and I want to do myself justice for all of the hard work that I've put in. I feel like I've earned the right to have that conversation about going after the Olympic gold medal in Paris. I have to be realistic and know I am not the current Olympic champion. I am the world champion. (Jakob) Ingebrigtsen is the Olympic champion. It's his title and it's his title to lose. I just need to have the belief and the training behind me that will allow for that dreaming to come into a reality."

In 2023, Josh Kerr pulled off one of the biggest upsets in recent middle distance running history. He took down reigning Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest – the second British runner in two years to upset the Norweigian star. Just three years ago, Kerr announced himself as a force in the 1500m on the global level with a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Now, he's confident. He's fit. He has the blueprint for success. He believes he's the favorite for gold in Paris.
