In this video lesson excerpt, D'Addario Woodwind Artist Greg Fishman compares two classic ways to implement ornamentation. First, there's the Rollins approach, which takes a little bit of extra time before moving on to the next note in the phrase. In contrast, the Coltrane approach sequences the ornaments with no waiting, creating more rhythmic density in the line. Both are incredible for adding detail to a simple phrase.
