For a lot of people, making a game can seem costprohibitive. A lot of firsttime devs, won't have backing from publishers, grants, or previous game sales, and have to fund it all themselves.
We managed to release our own game for less than $500 (excluding hours, obviously). In this video, Marnix goes over how you can do it, and how you should spend your money if you do have some lying around.
