What does it mean to be 'Singaporean?'

Born in the Philippines, Leo Caballes has lived in Singapore as a foreigner, a permanent resident, and now is in two minds when proclaiming himself a citizen.

Throughout his 16 years on our sunny shores, he has learned the hard ropes of migrant integration. A big part of that is adjusting to the xenophobic attitudes of many locals.

As he continues to fight negative stereotypes and a stream of xenophobic comments, he hopes locals will accept Singapore citizens whether native, or migrant.
