Bells of Liverpool Cathedral

What a weekend this was! A grand total of 24 teams of ringers aged 19 and under competed in the Ringing World National Youth Contest on Saturday 6th July with 1 team winning the Editors Call Change Trophy and the other team winning the Whitechapel method ringing trophy. Pier Head, a superb 41cwt 12 were the headquarters of the competition greeted on Friday evening by most of the 'older' members and supporters; ringing ranging from Cambridge Max to Rounds and Call Changes.

After the results at Pier Head, 'Open Ringing' was held at Liverpool Cathedral. A grand total of 351 stairs without the lift! This seemed like such an experience for all 200 odd band members in the ringing room, a great badge of honour to take home. Coming up to the Cathedral and then hearing the grand echoeing sound of the heavy 12 is enough to send shivers of anticipation and scale down the spine!
Photos at the end give a rough idea but don't do the magnificence and sheer scale of the inside of the Cathedral much justice, a visit to the Cathedral is a must!

We join a bob course of Grandsire Cinques and then the first lead of Cambridge Royal. The accoustics in the ringing room have a bit to be desired, the back bells almost merging into a giant hum and mush. Apparently the accoustics are set to improve in the future.
