"Music is greater than usit plays us." Emmanuel Pahud

Emmanuel Pahud is a celebrated soloist, chamber musician, and principal flautist at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Now 50, he shares anecdotes from his musical career from “winning” his first instrument at 5, to realizing at 15 that the flute was “for life” a life as one of today's most soughtafter musicians.

His reflections include two historic, deeply personal portraits: of legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis, and of Berlin. What made the 22yearold leave Celibidache, move to postWall Berlin, and be part of its rejuvenation and transformation are no less than a glimpse into European cultural history.
