Saturday update: Beryl expected to make landfall in Texas as a re-strengthening hurricane

Beryl is expected to be at least a category1 hurricane and its track has moved closer to Houston.

Models have all but taken northern Mexico out of the forecast and have been slowly trending farther north along the coast and more in the direction of Matagorda Bay, meaning over warm water longer.

The strength of the high to our east and a deepening upper trough will determine exactly where Beryl makes its final landfall. It still does not appear to be an issue for us. Landfall is looking more likely between Corpus Christi and Houston, possibly in the Victoria area. Early this week, Beryl is expected to make landfall in Texas bringing them strong winds, heavy rain, surge, flooding, and possibly tropical tornadoes.

Beryl will not be a direct threat to our area but indirect impacts can be felt early this week through Wednesday. That will equate to rough marine conditions, coastal flooding of up to 1 to 3 feet above normal high tide, breezy conditions especially at the coast and possibly higher rain chances Tuesday and Wednesday.
