Rob, from T1G, takes us through conducting an Immediate Action Drill for different pistol malfunctions. Speed Saves Lives: The faster you can clear that malfunction and get that puppy back in the fight may mean the difference between life or death. We are big believers in the KISS principle, and try to teach students as few steps as possible. That allows you to develop proper muscle memory in a shorter period of time.

Tap Rack. That’s all there is to it. 99.9% of all pistol malfunctions can be cleared by simply tapping the bottom of the magazine (to ensure it is properly seated in the magazine well) and racking the slide (to place a new round in the chamber).

Bad Ammo: Tap Rack (It ejects the bad cartridge and replaces it with a new one)

Magazine not fully seated (common after Tac Reloads): Tap Rack (properly seats the mag)

Slide Not fully Closed: Tap Rack (a good slingshot of the slide will fully seat it)

Stove Pipe: Tap Rack (removes the spent shell and racks a fresh round into the chamber)

Empty Gun, but Slide went forward: Tap Rack (the Slide will lock to the Rear and the shooter will then know for sure that he needs to do a reload)

When in Doubt: Tap Rack.
