When the Salthaven Bat Squad takes in a new patient, handlers need to teach the bat how to eat, given that they can’t catch their food as they normally would, while on the fly.

As you'll see in this video of a bat learning how to eat, our handlers are specialized and trained in how to do this.

Do not try this at home.

If you find a bat in need of help, do not try to feed it. While well intended, you could actually be doing more harm than good if feeding an animal whose digestive system is not yet able to metabolize the food.

The best thing to do if you find a bat or any compromised animal in need of help is to give us a call immediately at 5192642440.
