The Secrets of the Universe

The biggest black hole ever discovered in the universe is Phoenix A* (A star), located at the centre of the Phoenix cluster about 5.8 billion light years away. It’s so big that it can fit a mass of 100 billion Suns inside it. Also, the black hole’s event horizon, the point of no return beyond which even light cannot escape, is about 100 times the distance from the Sun to Pluto. To put that into perspective, if the Sun were the size of a pea, Phoenix A* would be the size of a football stadium, making it almost 1.5 times bigger than TON618, the previous record holder. Scientists propose that such black holes should be placed in the category of Stupendously Large Black Holes or SLABS, which may have been seeded by primordial black holes that formed within a second after the big bang.
