Welcome to this exciting episode of wildwestfaces, in this account we listen to the true account of Billy Dixon.
Billy and his 28 comrades were staying at the settlement of Adobe Walls in Hutchinson county Texas when they were attacked by over seven hundred Comanche, Kiowa and Cheyenne warriors.
Over three days the warriors kept up the attack and suffered heavy losses, the hunters also lost men as the battled to defend their small sanctuary.
On the morning of the third day , 15 Indian warriors rode out on a bluff nearly a mile away to survey the situation. Encouraged by one of the hunters, Dixon, a crack shot, took aim with a rifle that he had borrowed from another hunter and cleanly dropped a warrior from atop his horse. "I was admittedly a good marksman, yet this was what might be called a 'scratch' shot."
Seeing their fellow warrior killed from such a distance discouraged the Indians and they left the hunters and gave up the fight.
