Our stage 2 Predator 420cc engine on our Polaris "rat rod" ATV ingested a lot of muddy water a few weeks ago. The engine stopped running, wouldn't start back up, and had a ton of base pressure. We were sure that Ike ruined the engine. Today, we tear down the 420cc engine to find that the damage wasn't as bad as we had thought! The mud had packed into the piston rings, causing them to fully compress and let the compression escape down the cylinder and into the crankcase. We clean and reinstall the piston rings, relap the valves, do a little bit of headwork for more flow, and reinstall it on the ATV!
