Bluebird Powder Day Exploring Whistler Blackcomb

Follow
Chris Eyres

In this video we hit up Blackcomb Mountain after big snowfall and it's a bluebird. The alpine wasn't open yesterday meaning over 60cm (2ft) of fresh snow. We waited in line for 7th Heaven Chair to open anticipating some serious goodies over there.

The snow was a mix of windblown in areas and too deep in others. We headed out skier's left towards Lakeside Bowl and Cloud 9 area. After a couple laps in this area we drop over the back of Hortsman Hut to Secret Bowl and eventually over to Whistler on the Peak2Peak. Upon arrival we saw a helicopter taking off, probably rescuing the snowboarders that was lost in Khyber's Pass for 2 days and was just rescued. We headed over to Peak Chair and rode up with ski patrol, where he informed us about the missing snowboarder.

We got some info about snow conditions off Peak Chair, and after being told all the alpine bowls are windblown, we change out plan on the fly and head over to Millionaire's Ridge, which offers much of the same terrain as Khyber's does without much of the commitment. Snow conditions as we descended down into the trees. There was a great consistency to the snow making it possible to land anything under 10ft without even trying, kinda like falling into a big cushion.

This is my third day riding the Lib Teck Orca, and after getting familiarized with the flex of this board (a few cartwheels involved) I'm really starting to see why so many people like this board. Similar to the Korua Shapes Tranny Finder but more bendy, it's a perfect board on a day like this; truly a Whistler board.

All pretty tired after the lap down to Creekside, so one last trip up to catch the ride out to the village. Caspian let me try his 148cm Telos Backslash for the ski out. It was my first time on a Telos, and first impressions were great edge hold and very stable despite the small size. Really impressed with it carving ability, but it's still really playful and easy for butters and spins. Hopefully will get another chance to get it into some powder and see what it can do.

Just exhausted after finally getting back to the car and headed over to Splitz Grill to get refueled. This place is always voted best burger in Whistler, and definitely worth a try unless you're a miser for the Kaiser.

Thanks so much for watching
