'Boats at West Mersea' - Watercolour demo by Jem Bowden

It's Covid time. I hope you're doing okay out there...

This video is a bit lowfi in audiovisual quality, I know (more below).

Materials used for the painting:
Paint = French Ultramarine, Raw Umber (W&N), Indian Red (Rembrandt) and Thalo Blue Red Shade (Ken Bromley) .
Paper = Bockingford 200lb Not/Coldpressed, halfimperial sheet.
Brushes = Large squirrel mop & my own 'Black Sheep' brush.

This was my first time painting a demo sat down and also first time using Zoom (software) to present the demo essentially ‘live’ – switching between ref images and webcams, etc. To be honest I used this demo to practise with the software and studio set up with regard to doing live streaming and Zoombased teaching but have posted the recording initially only for my blog subscribers since I set an exercise on my blog regarding painting from this boat reference.

Video quality: I hope it’s not a mistake to make the video available, but please tell me if it is. The quality I think reflects mostly the fact that it was recorded through Zoom. Zoom seems fine in general but the record facility is not prioritised for great quality – at least not as far as I’ve been able to discover. The web cam I am borrowing is also not 'top of the range' these days, but the focus seems better when live than it appears on recordings.
Anyway, hope you find it worth watching.
All the best, Jem
