The Charlotte Harbor and Northern Railroad was completed to Boca Grande in 1907. For the next 50 years phosphate would be shipped via train out of Port Boca Grande without disruption. In 1969 Port Boca Grande ranked as the fourth busiest port in Florida. Today, the railroad trestle extending from the Florida mainland along the shallow waters and sandbars of Charlotte Harbor remains a reminder of the railroad's early and important history in Boca Grande.
