Boeing 747 Traffic and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). Pilot actions

Hello everyone! How do you do! Time for a snippet! This one I made in the simulator very quickly to remind you of the TCAS or Traffic Collision Avoidance System. This system alerts pilots of conflicting traffic and gives the pilots( in each aircraft, what action to take, to avoid a collision. On the B747400, the avoidance action is manually managed by the pilot by disconnecting the autopilot and Autothrottle. Then the pilot must obey the command even if it conflicts with a previously given ATC ( Air Traffic Control), instruction. The thing is that the systems in the aircraft ’talk’ (communicate) to each other so if a conflicting aircraft gives a climb command, then the other aircraft will get a ‘Descend’ command and vice Versa. In the case where the other aircraft does the opposite to the TCAS command, then a reversal in command will be given in the other aircraft. The pilot must respond to a TCAS Resolution advisory within 5 seconds and for a reversal within 2.5 seconds. So this then is a quick video showing you what is going on in the flight deck. ( It is NOT a violent manoeuvre per se but should be responded to within 5 seconds when a Command is given by system). Remember this could happen In the middle of the night say and on a passenger aircraft you might be watching a movie or Indeed sleeping. Pilots must be alert. Hope you like it ‘Chi Di Gin!’ Later!✈✈✈
