The bony orbit of the skull refers to the bones that make up the walls and margins of the orbits, or eye sockets. Generally we consider there to be four main walls of the orbit: the roof, medial and lateral walls and floor.

The following bones contribute to the orbital walls:
frontal bone (orbital part)
lacrimal bone
ethmoid bone (orbital plate)
zygomatic bone (orbital process)
maxillary bone (orbital process/surface)
palatine bone (orbital process)
sphenoid bone (greater and lesser wings and body)

The orbital margin or rim refers to the circular margin, or 'lip' of the orbit, while the orbital apex is located on the posterior wall of the orbit; this is where the optic canal, superior orbital fissure and inferior orbital fissure transmit various nerves and vessels to and from the orbit.
