Barbecue from morning to night, nonstop, for 20 days. This is the Acampamento Farroupilha de Porto Alegre, the biggest event that honors the traditions of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. In this region, barbecue is something of an institution.

In an area of a city park, more than 200 pickets – a type of rustic sheds – are set up, where traditionalists “camp” during the event. They carry out cultural activities, sing, dance, recite poetry, and mainly make and enjoy barbecue.

More than a million people visit the place to interact with the local culture and, mainly, to taste different cuts of meat and other typical foods.
