Randy Newberg takes his new HowaHS Precision rifle to the shooting range to break in the barrel and calibrate his new Leupold VX5 CDS scope as he gets ready to take it to Alaska for the first hunt of the season.
Some will argue the rifle breakin is not necessary. Randy chooses to do it, as is recommended by Howa Rifles and Nosler Ammunition. Randy uses a method of ten shots, with cleaning and cooling between each of the ten shots. He follows that with ten more shots, where he does groups of two, cleaning and cooling the barrel in between each twoshot group.
Upon barrel breakin, Randy then adjusts his CDS dials for a 100 yard zero.
