Joey Ellis creates works that explore the possibilities of individual selfexpression within the boundaries of culture and politics. He is the first American graduate of Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts, living in China and working in various mediums combining craft, technology and language to address issues of globalization and cultural exchange. His interest in bridging Eastern and Western concepts of materials and authorship is reflected in his works, exhibited throughout Asia and North America. He was recipient of the TEDGlobal Fellowship in 2010 and was selected by The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum as one of 40 Under 40, a major exhibition highlighting the work of forty artists born since 1972.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, selforganized events that bring people together to share a TEDlike experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, selforganized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
