Welcome to Brockville, Ontario! Home to Canada's first railway tunnel completed in 1860. The Brockville Railway Tunnel was in use for over 110 years from 1860 to the early 1970s. It was operated first by the Brockville & Ottawa Railway then was taken over by the Canadian Pacific Railway and in 1983 the City of Brockville purchased it for $1. The city restored the tunnel and in 2017 it was opened to the public for Canada's 150th celebration. It now opens every summer for tourists and locals to come and walk through and see the amazing architecture of the tunnel. It is also part of the Brock Trail that goes through the city.
