Wit Studio’s newest anime movie: Bubble (2022)… has been getting some heat lately. While nearly everyone agrees that the anime’s visual experience was outstanding, it is the movie’s story facing most of the backlash—leading some to even say that Bubble is wasted potential! While much of that criticism is warranted, I feel like a good chunk of it is also just a hive mind going to work. Today, I give you an alternate point of view—some love for Bubble’s story—or what I think the narrative does perfectly, even if unintended: they give an answer to that question in the back of your head… what does it mean to be alive?

This is a video essay that may fall under fair use as it provides research, commentary and teachings on the existential themes in Bubble (2022). The video skips over any big or important spoilers in the movie. Bubble is currently streaming on Netflix and is releasing theatrically on Friday, May 13th 2022.
