The capital and the most populated and popular city of Hungary. It is the ninth largest city in the European Union by population and the second largest city on the Danube River.
Budapest is the capital and largest city of Hungary and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The city is often called the "Paris of the East" due to its stunning architecture, picturesque bridges and charming cafes. It is located along the banks of the Danube and is divided into two main parts: Buda, the hilly west bank, and Pest, the flat east bank.
Here are some mustsee landmarks: the iconic Széchenyi Chain Bridge, the Royal Palace in Buda and the Hungarian Parliament building. Visitors can also explore thermal baths, such as the famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, or take a stroll along Andrássy Boulevard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Varosliget Park: A large and beautiful park with lakes, relaxation area and attractions such as Vajdahunyad Castle and the Museum of Fine Arts.
The city also boasts a vibrant nightlife, with many bars and clubs, as well as a thriving food scene. Visitors can taste traditional Hungarian dishes such as goulash, chimney cake and Lángos.
Budapest is also known for its festivals and events, such as the Budapest Wine Festival and the Budapest Opera Ball.
There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Budapest, including the Danube River View, Buda Castle District, Andrássy út, Hősök tere and the Millennium Underground Railway, the world's first electric underground railway and the second underground railway in Europe after London. In addition, the city's Danube bridges are also important for tourism. There are about 80 geothermal springs in the city. It is home to the world's largest thermal water cave system, Europe's largest synagogue (Dohány Street Synagogue) and the world's third largest parliament building, the Hungarian Parliament. Budapest attracts around 12 million international tourists every year, making it one of the most popular destinations in Europe
In 2011, Budapest is the 25th most visited city in the world. It ranks sixth in Europe, in order, after London, Istanbul, Paris, Rome and Barcelona.
