Legends Tower is poised to be the tallest skyscraper in the United States and the sixth tallest in the world, surprisingly located in Oklahoma City. This mixeduse mega development aims to double the city's apartment market and significantly boost local growth. Oklahoma City has experienced notable population growth over the past decade, leading to various infrastructure upgrades. However, none match the scale and newsworthiness of Legends Tower. Scott Matteson, the driving force behind the project and leader of Matteson Capital, has pushed the project forward despite significant pushback.

Originally called the Boardwalk at Bricktown, the development was to include four towers with residential units, a hotel, and restaurants. The towers were initially designed to be 24 to 26 stories tall, providing 1,000 housing units. However, in December 2023, one tower's height was increased to 1,750 feet, and by January 2024, it was further revised to 1,907 feet, making it the tallest building in the country. Designed by Architects Orange, Legends Tower will feature a retailandentertainment podium and three 345foot tall towers, housing 900 hotel rooms and 1,776 residential units.

The project's feasibility has been questioned, given Oklahoma City's location in tornado alley and its relatively low population density. However, structural engineers are confident the tower can withstand severe weather. The project's financing is secured, and with city council approval, construction is expected to begin in late 2024. If completed, Legends Tower will elevate Oklahoma City's profile, fostering growth from tourism and additional residential space, transforming the state's identity from its historical roots in oil, cattle, and railroads to a modern architectural marvel.
