Our first morning at the HiuhluweImfolozi Game Reserve in South Africa,
we saw this Bull elephant twice. The first time he went into the brush and came out the other side later that morning. The wetness on his cheeks is from the musk, an oily substance that only once a year is secreted and attracts females. His glands are inflamed, the temples swollen and his temperament and behavior undergo a remarkable change. This makes him nervy, excitable and unpredictable. After shaking the tree for breakfast he showed us that he was the king of the jungle that day. Watch as he comes at us, and starts to carry his trunk in his tusks.
