ABOUT
Virtually everyone in the world consciously or unconsciously knows a song by Burt Bacharach. The now 81yearold master composer wrote the majority of his classics with lyricist Hal David. Songs like Wishin' and Hopin', Walk on By, What the World Needs Now Is Love and I Say A Little Prayer are just a small sample from his enormous repertoire. In recent years, the Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuis has brought renewed attention to Bacharach's songs. She did this with two successful albums recorded with the Metropole Orkest. The master himself also made a contribution: he plays the piano on several tracks. Bacharach and David composed their first song in 1957. Today, this dynamic composer remains active, releasing new works and performing live across the globe. The duet album Painted from Memory that he recorded in 1998 with Elvis Costello, rose high on the charts. He released his most recent album At This Time in 2005 and it includes topical protest songs. Burt Bacharach is arguably the greatest legend at the North Sea Jazz Festival this year.
