After scoring an awesome military trailer in a government auction, I got stopped by the California Highway Patrol during the DOT blitz week for a roadside inspection. The officer wrote me a violation for not having a log book, even though I explained that this trip was non commercial and I was only hauling my personal property, which exempts me from needing a log book. Of course, I couldn't remember the actual FMCSA regulation at the time, and I know better than to argue with an officer on the side of the rode, so I took the violation and moved on. I then went down to the Sierra Weapons Depot to pick up my new trailer, which to my surprise turned out to be a brand new and never used unit. Once I got it hooked to the back of my rollback tow truck I headed back north and the trip went really well. Not a single issue on the whole trip.
