This video shows how I merged parts of 2 helicopter frames and parts of two differentbutsimilar swash plates to build this monster.
Parts credits:
C186: Lower frame, main gear, upper swash plate, 4blade head and blades, landing gear, body shell.
MCPX BL: Upper frame, carbon main shaft, lower swash plate, control board, brushless main and tail BL, linear servos, servo pushrods, tail rotor wires.
ADDITIONAL: Motor pinion gear, 9tooth, 0.4 tooth size (modulus), 1.0mm hole bore. Purchased via AliExpress.
The video is composed of 3 parts. Part one displays features of the build, part two is the test flight, and part 3 is a surprise trip searching for the heli when it lost power while over the property next door. Luckily I recovered it with no damage nor complaints from neighbors.
After some thought I think the motor cut out from being overloaded. It died just as I fed in more throttle/collective to tighten my turn, maybe full collective throttle. I suspect perhaps the blades reached too steep of a pitch maybe? or the battery was drained enough that it could not handle the sudden demand for more? Obviously more tests are needed.
Either way, Happy flying!
