Cabri G2 Start Up Procedure & Hover Power Check

Show Up Anyway!

Most everyone looks for ways to save money and make the most of their ground and flight training. One big problem I have observed for the past 20 years is, many students see weather is not the greatest, so they call and cancel!

That's not the best option. There are always, always, always, things to do to make progress! You should show up for your training session regardless. Your instructor should be pushing this as well.

The number 1 area that people struggle with is all the ground work. All the stuff that goes along with being a safe and prudent pilot. 25% of the work is learning the aircraft. 75% of the work is everything that you have to know!

For example, I had a flight scheduled with our HOGS Guest Instructor Christopher Houser in the Cabri G2 yesterday. We were planning on shooting a brand new fresh video for our Radio Communications Course, and or Slope Landings with footage from both inside the cockpit, and exterior filming of the aircraft as well for the HOGS Private Pilot Online Course.

I knew the weather wasn't great, so did Chris. Did we play the game before our scheduled flight time going back and forth trying to decide to fly or cancel. No, we did not. Chris trained with me for all his ratings 10 years ago. He knows there is always something to do and I would show up.

By the time I arrived the weather had deteriorated and wasn't good enough for flying the pattern for radio work, or exterior filming due to rain.

We decided then to do a Start Up Procedure and Hover Power Check Video for the Cabri G2. This is something we could do safely. We would also be able to do a hover power check along with the start up.

There are is always something to do. For students, maybe the weather is not good enough for the pattern, however it may just be fine to hone some basic skills like Hovering. Pick Ups and Set Downs, Hover Autos. Quick Stops. And most importantly, you can sit one on one with your instructor and do ground. There is always something to do to make progress!
