A landlord cannot request that a tenant not bring a pet into the rental unit during the tenancy period. Even if a lease is in place and the tenant agreed to not bringing a pet, and circumstances change, the landlord cannot apply to evict the tenant for having a pet. The lease should not contain any terms that are inconsistent with the Act. If the lease does contain a term that is inconsistent with the Act, that term will not be enforced by the LTB.
