Can pilonidal sinus cause problems for the spine the straightforward answer is no. Pilonidal sinus is confined to the skin and subcutanous tissue fat at the most it may go up to the sacral fascia.Normally it not affect the spine itself so one need not worry or get scared of pilonidal sinus what is pilonidal sinus the hair which has fallen from the back which gets sucked in between the buttock that is something called natal cleft . So it gets into that sulcus it get sucked and they make holes and the hair will enter into that and form infection there that is called pilonidal sinus. "Pilo" means hair "Nidus" means which has formed a resting place there. So Pilonidal sinuses are easily treatable diseases one need not worry too much about it. Though it is little recurrence is more it takes a longer time to heal there are varieties of treatment especially with the Advent of lasers. In the treatment of Pilonidal sinuses it has become very simple and very easy to treat provided they come in a very early stage the earlier. It is the simpler will be the treatment if it becomes twoo big abscesses. Multiple extensions and all then it becomes more complex.So whenever a pilonidal sinus is detected what do we suspect there will be a small swelling or pain or small discharge between the buttocks in the low back between the buttocks. Once you notice that immediately you have to go to a surgeon or Proctologist and show it rather than waiting with some antibiotic apply ointments on all. So don't delay get it diagnosed then treat it as early as possible.
