The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has witnessed a continuous evolution in weaponry, tactics, and geopolitical dynamics. As the war intensifies, Ukraine is poised to receive U.S.made F16 fighter aircraft within months—an upgrade that Kyiv and its Western allies hope will help level the playing field against Russia’s formidable air force. However, Russia is already preparing to counter these new fighters even before they arrive. A Russian Su30SM2 fighter jet has been spotted for the first time with R37M longrange airtoair missiles, ready to target Western aircraft. This combination of advanced technology is seen as a potential gamechanger, raising the question: why is it expected to be effective against the F16?
