Sciatica refers to not only pain but also other sensations and feelings present anywhere along the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body and contains both motor and sensory fibers making it a mixed nerve that goes from your low back to the back of your thigh, leg, and foot. However, there can be some variation from person to person, as not everyone is mapped the same way.

The most common symptom is pain or discomfort felt anywhere down the sciatic nerve. It can be a pain going down the back of your leg and thigh towards your foot. It can also present as pain in the lower back and burning sensations as it can affect the sensory component. It can be radiating pain, numbness or lack of sensation, pain in the toes or legs, and reduced range of motion, as well as some bladder and organ functional issues.

Scoliosis is an unnatural sideways curve to the spine and surrounding tissues. As we know that the sciatic nerve starts in the lower back, it is commonly associated with lumbar scoliosis. Lumbar spines that have an unnatural curvature can expose the roots that form the sciatic nerve to uneven pressure, which can lead to issues like sciatica.

Sciatica is normally treated by first determining what is compressing the nerve roots that leads to sciatic pain. Sometimes the sciatic nerve can be compressed outside of the spine area, but it is uncommon. The most common form of sciatica is when it is compressed in the spinal area.

In scoliosisrelated sciatica, you need to treat the scoliosis in order to properly treat the sciatica. If you do not correct what is causing it, you will only see a small improvement during treatment, but there is no longterm relief. There is a big difference between treating the symptoms of scoliosis vs. treating scoliosis itself.

In order to reduce scoliosis, you need scoliosisspecific treatment in order to reduce the curve and so reduce the unnatural pressure in the spinal area composing the sciatic nerves leading to a more significant improvement.

At The Scoliosis Reduction Center, we offer proactive treatment to help address the size of the curve and decompress the nerve roots to lead to more longlasting improvement as we reduce the scoliosis, and that is the best way to reduce scoliosisinduced sciatica.
