In the summertime, we are used to seeing electric scooters on every corner of the street. I thought they will take all scooters away from the streets for winter. I was very surprised to see one at this time of the year.

So can you ride it in the snow? Here are 6 aspects to pay attention to when riding an electric scooter in winter.

Cold weather affects your scooter and battery

Electric scooters mostly have lithiumion batteries.

The lower the temperature, the less energy the battery can hold. So don’t leave your scooter outside for a long time.

For example, a battery that usually carries you for 10 miles in the summer will carry the same rider for 5 miles in the winter.

Also, don’t charge the battery when it’s cold. Let the scooter warm up. Then you don’t make any harm to the battery.

Use proper tires

If possible, use winter tires. Offroad tires will also work well.

Pneumatic tires are better than solid tires. You can even deflate the tires a bit for better traction.

If your scooter has solid tires or the road is very icy, it’s not advisable to ride at all.

Install fenders

Without fenders, the ride can be very dirty. The snow on the streets is usually not clean.

You don’t want to ruin your clothes. So if possible, use an electric scooter that has fenders or install them.

Wear proper winter clothes

You should wear at least 3 layers to keep yourself warm.

Also gloves, a warm hat, winter boots, windproof pants, and skiing glasses are advisable.
Riding with a scooter should be fun but there is no fun if you are freezing.

Wear safety gear

You should wear a helmet in summer too.

But in winter, when it is more likely to fall, the use of a helmet is mandatory.

If you ride an electric scooter in winter, you will be going to fall at some point anyway. So keep your head safe.

Learn proper riding style

It means that you should avoid sudden movements.

Sudden turning or braking will easily result in a fall.

It’s not a bad idea to come off the scooter when crossing the street or taking a sharp corner.

Also, don’t ride in deep snow. It is basically unrideable in very deep snow.

If you really want to, you should pick some very powerful dualmotor electric scooter.

To sum it up. You can definitely ride an electric scooter in the snow. You just need to take into account that the scooter behaves differently than in the summer. If you adapt accordingly, it can be very fun.

Thanks for watching.
