Amid the Kanishka Bombing anniversary, the IndiaCanada row has erupted once again. EAM Jaishankar and the Indian High Commission in Canada paid homage to the victims at a ceremony in Ottawa, calling the bombing a "cowardly terrorist act". Air India Flight 182, en route from Montreal to London, exploded over the Atlantic Ocean on June 23, 1985, due to a bomb planted by Khalistani terrorists. All 329 on board, including 268 Canadians, 27 Britons, and 24 Indians, perished. The bombing was believed to be retaliation for then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's government's Operation Bluestar. However, the word Khalistan was missing in Justin Trudeau’s statement on the day of the 39th anniversary of the Air India Kanishka bombing.
The only convict Inderjit Singh Reyat was freed in 2017 and lives under the Parole Board of Canada's supervision. The investigation into the bombing case is still ongoing in Canada.
Apart from Khalistani terrorists, Canada is also sheltering the killers of Sheikh Mujib, the father of Bangladesh and many Sri Lankan terrorists on its soil. Both these countries have been criticising the Canadian government for its sluggish approach.
