Cape Reinga is the northernmost accessible point in New Zealand.

according to many Photographers and nature enthusiasts, Cape Reinga offers a visual feast like no other.
More than to its natural beauty, cape Reinga has a profound cultural significance.
In Māori culture, Cape Reinga is considered as the most spiritually significant place in New Zealand.
According to Māori believe, the spirits of their recently passed one, depart on their journey to afterlife from here.
At the northernmost trip of this cape there is pohutukawa tree, which is believed to be over 800 years old. This tree is said to have never bloomed at least no one can produce photographic evidence to support that is has. This pohutukawa tree is considered as the most sacred tree in New Zealand.
According to Māori mythology, the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their final journey to the afterlife and climb the roots of this pohutukawa tree.
The spirit then descends into the underworld by sliding down the root into the sea below and travel underwater to the Three Kings Islands. When the spirit arrived at three king islands, the spirit climbs out of water and go to the highest point of the island. Here at this highest point, the spirit turns back briefly for one last look towards the main land.
The spirit then bid their last farewell and travel towards the land of their ancestors in HawaiikiANui.
