UPDATE: This was a great starter aircraft but I sold it after it taught me all it could. My goto is now the Turbo Timber Evolution. Very easy to fly and has a much better landing gear and battery tray.

Intro: Detailed information on my Rate/Expo and Mix settings for the Carbon Club S2 and Spektrum NX 8 transmitter. Also some tips, tricks, repairs, and tweaks.

The settings included in the description below assume that you have either imported the correct BNF template or created a new model from scratch and have binding done. It also assumes a working knowledge of navigating the NX 8 menus and options using the scroll wheel.

If not already done first go to System Setup from the main Function List menu. In System Setup go to Channel Assign. Gear = E, AUX2 = F. This assigns flaps to Switch F. The E channel is actually used for Flight Mode selection even though the Digital Switch Setup screen shows it is used for landing gear.

Still in System Setup go to System Settings, Next, Volume Controls, Select Analog (the last option on the Voice Volume Control page) and set to R Knob. That allows the use of the R Knob to set the level for all system sounds. You can also change the relative level of all sound categories on this page. I left them all at 50.

Now go back the main Function List menu.

My Switch Assignments and Positions are:
D: Throttle Cut On=1 and 2, Off= 0
E: Beginner Mode=0, Intermediate Mode=1. Experienced Mode=2
H: Flaps Up=0, Takeoff Flaps=1, Landing Flaps=2
R Knob = Volume Control (as already explained above)
Setup:
Servo Travel: All 100 except AX2 High=120

D/R & Expo (all can be tweaked but the focus is on Experienced Mode):
Beginner Mode Intermediate Mode Experienced Mode

Ailerons: Rate 80 Expo 30 Rate 80 Expo 30 Rate 60 Expo 0
Elevator: Rate 100 Expo 0 Rate 100 Expo 0 Rate 60 Expo 0
Rudder: Rate 80 Expo 30 Rate 80 Expo 30 Rate 60 Expo 0

Throttle Cut:
Switch D, Position 2 = 130%, Position 1 130% and 0 Unchanged at 0%
Delay = Inh
Require Stick Low = No

Throttle Curve = No change, personal preference

Digital Switch Setup
Switch F: Pos 0 = 100%, 1 = 0%, 2 = 60% (decrease Pos 2 to less than 60 for more flaps deflection)

Mixing: To create a Mix start with a blank (everything = INH), name the control you are changing, then the control to be changed as a result of that change. Example: To move the Rudder when Ailerons are moved the Mix is set to AIL/RUD. Then assign that Mix to a Switch and Switch position.

Flaps Elevator Mix
AX2/ELE
Assign Switch to F
F = 0: All Values = 0
F = 1: Rate: 0% and 35%, Offset 50%
F = 2: Rate 0% and 45%, Offset = 0%

Aileron Elevator Mix
AIL/ELE
Assign Switch E and Set Switch E to 2
Rate = 30% and + 30%
Offset = 0%
Do not change Switch E Positions 0 or 1 Settings

Aileron Rudder Mix
AIL/RUD
Assign Switch E and Set Switch E to 2
Rate = +30% and +30%
Offset = 0%
Do not change Switch E Positions 0 or 1 Settings.

To add switch change audio alerts go to Audio Events, Switch Changes, and set the alerts for switches D, E and F.
Switch D: 0 = Throttle Cut Off, 1 and 2 = Throttle Cut On
Switch E: 0 = Beginner Mode, 1 = Intermediate Mode, 2 = Experienced Mode
Switch F: 0 = Flaps Up, 1 = Takeoff Flaps, 2 = Landing Flaps

Smart ESC telemetry settings: Display = ACT, Total Cells = 3, Low Voltage Alarm = 3.8V/Cell and Alarm = Voice, All other = INH, Status Reports = 60 sec, Alarm Reports = 30 sec

Note that I have used different switch assignments versus what is shown in the video. It’s just a personal preference.
I strongly suggest you also watch this video.
