Casper Taub, founder of Pittsburgh, received a military land grant from Colonel Henry Bouquet four miles from Fort Pitt in November 1762. Casper was born in Minfeld, christened there in Oct 1706, and wrote his Last Will and Testament in February 1771. Casper may have been the caretaker of Fort Pitt. He was the ancestor of the Negleys, Winebiddles and the Mellons. East Liberty Presbyterian Church is built on his land, that was later donated in the form of 1.5 acres by his granddaughter Barbara Negley to the city. Her descendant Richard B. Mellon built the church with his wife to honor both of their mothers.

There is much talk of the history of Fort Duquesne/Fort Pitt, including mentions of Major George Washington's visits to the area in 1753, 1754 and 1755. There is also mention of Jacob Daub, his son, who lived at Carrollton Manor. There is mention of the 9 July 1755 Battle of Monongahela, where Major General Edward Braddock was defeated and ultimately died on the 13th from his wounds. 3 years later a dying General John Forbes led an expedition to Fort Duquesne and hacked a new road through the wilderness. The Forbes Road would later be used by countless settlers to enter the Ohio River Valley. Casper Taub's plantation was located on this road, at the Four Mile Spring.
