NOTE: 2nd reupload of an old vid that got yeeted by YT's copyright bots, hence the outdated intro, editing style and thumbnail :/

Welcome to my Airline Fleet Evolution series that presents the evolution of airline fleets. The series looks back at an airline's entire history yearbyyear, and all aircraft types operated by the featured airline will be showcased. Each type is usually pictured with the livery that was in use at the time of their introduction.

Cathay Pacific was founded on September 24, 1946 and commenced operations with passenger and freight services from Hong Kong to Sydney using DC3 aircraft. The Swire Group became a major shareholder of the airline in 1948 and managed it alongside Australian National Airways (later absorbed by Ansett Australia). Cathay Pacific expanded its Asian network in the 1950s, and it became the first foreign carrier to fly to Osaka in 1960. Jet operations began in 1962 with the introduction of the Convair 880M, and the first widebody aircraft, a Lockheed L1011 TriStar, entered service with the airline in 1975. Cargo flights began in 1982 with the founding of Cathay Pacific Cargo and the purchase of a secondhand 747200F from British Airways. Cathay Pacific gained fame from flying the world's first nonstop polar route from New York to Hong Kong in July 1998. As of May 2020, the airline has suspended most operations due to the COVID19 outbreak.
