In today's video: Cause of V Toes Plantar Plate Tear I show you a patient with a Plantar Plate Tear which is the most common cause of V toes. The plantar plate is a band of fibrous tissue that runs underneath the distal metatarsal heads and help to hold the metatarsal heads together. The plantar plate also helps to cushion the metatarsal heads and prevent the drop of the metatarsophalengeal joint. A plantar plate tear can result in the toes splaying apart and can be the cause of V toes and cause irritation or crowding of the surrounding toes.
