cDNG War - Sigma fp vs Blackmagic Production Camera 4K

Since some people were curious, I decided to do a quick comparison between the fp and the Production camera.

I know it would be interesting to compare them in more interesting atmospheres, however, when I get out, I'm too lazy to carry too much gear with me. Basically I shot at home or on my parents, but it is still interesting to see how they compare in normal lighting conditions.

Both cameras were shot in 4K cDNG, however I decided to use the S35 mode on the fp, since the image quality is considerably better than on the fullframe mode when there's enough light (the fp doesn't read the full sensor in FF mode).
I know many people may be shocked, but I did my own tests and the S35 is the best mode when you don't need to raise the ISO or want to use the fullcircle of a FF lens to get a wider shot. This way the fp files have 95% of the detail produced by the Production Camera, otherwise the Blackmagic would win by a larger margin.
At the same time the FOV, using the same focal length, gets very similar between the two cameras.

I started by using the same lens  on both cameras, but then I switched the 24mm f/1.4 L with the Nikkor 24mm f/2.0 AI on the fp, so I could avoid the pain of switching lenses all the time.
When needed, the same variable ND was used.

Both were converted to Arri LogC before applying the same quick grades.
Using the same WB settings, even after matching, the sensor on the Blackmagic produces a warmer image with a green tint. The fp, on the other hand, looks colder and more magenta. Since both are capable of RAW shooting, it's not difficult to get them really close, but without having them side by side, I find it easier to get the look I want on the Blackmagic.

The Production Camera is well known to have a very limited dynamic range and to clip the highlights really badly but, as I mentioned on my previous video, if you are careful, it can look really good. I shot some high dynamic range scenes (the first one with my kid and then another with my Nikon Df) and despite the fp keeping the highlights detail better, the Production camera still looks very decent.

The latitude of the fp sensor is much, much better. You still need to be careful with the highlights, but it's incredible regarding shadow detail. There was no point in testing that.

Low light performance is also on a completely different level, I would say even on opposite ones. The Blackmagic is limited to ISO 400 (800 looks really bad) and the fp has one of the best sensors for low light.

On the other hand, the Blackmagic has an incredible global shutter with no jello effect and great motion cadence. On the last test, remember the fp was shot using the S35 mode, otherwise the difference would be much larger.

The fp offers overall a much more complete package, but the Blackmagic is indeed very impressive for a decade old camera and the sensor renders incredible detail. In fact I tend to prefer its image when there's enough light and I find the global shutter is great for fast moving subjects.
