Centrifugal Pump Working principle

Amit Mandal

A centrifugal pump is a specific type of turbomachine that uses rotational energy to transport fluids by converting it into the kinetic energy of the fluid being pumped. They are one of the most common types of pumps used today.
Here's how a centrifugal pump works
1)Fluid enters: Fluid enters the pump axially through the inlet (also called the suction nozzle) of the casing.
2)Impeller action: The fluid is then directed into a rotating impeller with fanlike blades. As the impeller rotates, it accelerates the fluid due to centrifugal force.
3) Pressure increase: The high velocity fluid leaving the impeller blades enters a diffuser or volute chamber (casing) where the velocity is gradually reduced. This conversion of kinetic energy to pressure energy increases the pressure of the fluid.
4) Exit: Finally, the highpressure fluid exits the pump through the discharge nozzle.
Essentially, centrifugal pumps work like a spinning fan that pushes fluid through the system.
