metals are solid at room temperature (except Mercury, it is a liquid state)
high tensile strength
usually lustrous/shiny
(b). The characters of nonmetal are as follows.

poor conductors of heat and electricity (except graphite).
nonmetals are brittle in nature
nonmetals are solid, gas at room temperature (except Bromine, it is a liquid state)
Low tensile strength
usually dull looking (except Diamond), do not show malleability and ductility.
Uses Of Metals:

★ used in manufacturing automobiles, machinery, trains, satellites, aeroplanes, industrial gadgets.

★ used in making wires, electrical appliances, circuits and many more.

★ used in making utensils, water boilers.

★ used to prevent the rust formation (Zinc is mainly used as a protective coat for iron).

★ used in making thermometer (Hg).
