Charango Tuning Tutorial
By a special request from the Sacred Valley
There are many different shapes, styles and makes of charangos.
And many luthiers (charango makers).
Many woods, many tunings, many rhythms.
Here I am sharing the one that often considered a "standard" charango tuning. Keep in mind it is one tuning, and especially in the Andes (birthplace of the charango) you can find many other ways to tune.
1st string = E5
2nd string = A4
3rd string = E4, E5
4th string = C5
5th string = G4
"A" = 440Hz is a reference commonly used in "Western" "modern" music though there are also other references people use (such as "A"=432Hz). This is your choice. Make sure when tuning that you always set a reference. That reference can also be your ear, if you don't have a tuning device nearby.
