Montreal Jazz buffs were treated to a high octane, fuel injected saxophone blowout at their Jazz mainstay, Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill. Part of a concert series also featuring drummer Jimmy Cobb, the Chateauguay Tenors play host to New York baritone genius Gary Smulyan. This excerpt is from the closing number, a rollicking, lumbering blues.

The pieces is framed by Al McLean's comical presentation of his 'shrunken bari', and some great banter about saxophone envy. The 1922 Conn curved soprano is a fabulous foil to Cameron Wallis and Gary Smulyan's massive baritone sounds. Finally, McLean pulls out an actual baritone sax, and competes with his stage mates.
